Interaction Design Intern

During my 1 year as an interaction design intern, I designed interfaces, experiences, and interactions for household appliances, including LCD touch screen wall ovens, stand mixers, the Kitchen Hub microwave, and appliance controls for their mobile app Smart HQ. In addition, I worked on creating and documenting GEA's Design System for their touch screen appliances. I initiated a framework for the integration 3rd party partnerships and how that integrates with a user's cooking experience using LCD screens and other smart home devices a user might have.

In Depth Experience

Spending a whole year as an intern allowed me to contribute to several long term projects and see projects move from one phase to another. I gained regular experience working with product managers, cloud team, and software team, while building design skills and relationships with fellow Industrial Designers and UI/UX Designers in the IDO Department (Industrial Design Operations).

Balance and Growth

This was my first time working for a large company - a US forerunner in household appliances - and I learned to balance usability, feasibility, and creativity while paying attention to detail in order to bring the end user the optimal experience in using some of the most common household appliances. By brainstorming and receiving regular feedback from co-workers, I grew in my visual design skills, usability design knowledge, and the joy that comes with interaction design.

While I spent most of my time designing for the GE Profile product line, I needed to familiarize myself with GE's mass premium brand Cafe and luxury brand Monogram to not only understand the design language of each brand, but also  the goals, lifestyle, and personality of each target user. I grew to understand GE Profile's Feature Seeker persona well so that I could develop appropriate interactions and frameworks that suit GE Profile owners (and even user test prototype wireframes on users)!

I learned...

How to create a framework to better understand the problem before jumping into generating solutions

How to communicate and work in sync with cloud, engineering, and product teams

How to take hi-fi wireframe prototypes into User Testing

What a Design System is, and how to document and create one with other designers

To design for Android based platforms

A lot of the work I did is not in production yet, so I cannot disclose much here. Please reach out to me for more info!
